March & April 2024 Volunteer Days @ The Growing Local Gardens
VOLUNTEER NEWS
Each Tuesday we meet up at the site to achieve a number of varying tasks. Our current priorities include constructing pathways, putting up sheds and kitting out the polytunnels in the children’s education garden and completing our tree and hedgerow planting across the site. We very much look forward to starting the sowing and planting in the CSA gardens soon!
As of Tuesday 5th March we have extended the volunteer day to between 10am and 3pm – No need to book on, just come along on the day. We will supply cake and biscuits and hot drinks. Bring your lunch and stay all day or just a morning or afternoon.
Absolutely no experience is necessary, just come along and muck in – we’ll always have plenty of jobs!. Please note that for the time being we have limited toilet facilities on site (we have to construct them first!). We do however have use of the toilets over by the Belmont Wanderers car park – which is where you can park if driving (details below). It’s about a 10 minute walk from the gardens.
If cycling or walking – we are situated at the end of the Great Western Way foot/cycle path, go past the football fields and you will see our fields on either side the path as you head towards Grafton – we are likely to be in the main growing field – field 1 on the map below.
If driving: We are currently able to use the car park of Belmont Wanderers – it is just off Vernons Williams Close in Newton Farm, Hereford (HR2 7BF). Coming from Hereford on the Belmont Road, turn left at the Tesco’s roundabout into Southolme Road. Go over the little roundabout, up the hill, through the chicanes and then turn right onto Vernon Williams Close. Follow the close round to the left and you’ll see the car park at the end.
