In response to COVID 19 and the closure of the schools Growing Local are issuing Weekly Food Activity Sheets to accompany family food boxes from the Hereford Rotary and Food Bank. They are also available here for schools and parents to print off.

“Ledbury Food Group has produced a pictorial record of a farming year, illustrating the working life of two independent farmers just 2 miles from Ledbury in Little Marcle – sheep farmer Andrew Powers and organic vegetable grower John Davenport. This record is captured in a 6 minute video/audio presentation which can now be viewed on Ledbury Food Group’s website
The Great Plant Hunt www.greatplanthunt.org develops children’s understanding of the natural world and is an ideal free resource to help you teach the primary science curriculum. All teaching materials and resources are available to download – so you can make your own Treasure Chest of resources to run The Great Plant Hunt completely free.
Grow Your Own Potatoes Project www.growyourownpotatoes.org.uk ‘Grow your own Potatoes’ is a project that teaches primary school children about potatoes. Schools can register to receive a free potato growing kit, supporting lesson plans and worksheets.
Royal Horticultural Society www.rhs.org.uk RHS campaign for all schools to have a garden, and upon free registration, they will provide each school with a free start up kit, free seeds every year, newsletters and rewards for progress.
Tree Appeal www.treeappeal.com offers a free tree or cell grow sapling of your choice.
The Woodland Trust Tree Detectives www.naturedetectives.org.uk offers resources for linking trees to the curriculum as well as free activity packs for teachers and resources for schools.
Farming & Food Resources
Countryside Classroom www.countrysideclassroom.org.uk are committed to helping children learn about food, farming and/or the natural environment. The brand new site contains a multitude of teaching resources for all year groups and helps teachers find places to visit. They aim to inspire and enable teachers to use food, farming and the natural environment more often, in and out of the classroom.
Farms for Schools and FACE www.farmsforschools.org.uk is a partner of Farming & Countryside Education. FACE, in collaboration with a variety of members and partners have produced several information packs and fact sheets that teachers will find useful.
The Food for Life Partnership www.foodforlife.org.uk is an exciting and inspiring project that celebrates growing and cooking food and aims to transform school and community food culture. The site contains advice and resources on growing, cooking and visiting farms.
NFU www.nfuonline.com together with FACE have produced the Why Farming Matters Primary Schools educational e-book containing lesson ideas to bring farming to life in the classroom. Linked to the curriculum, the activities explore the vital role of farming in our lives. Online resources also include farmer videos, extension activities and downloadable classroom posters.
Gardening Advice
Garden Organic www.gardenorganic.org.uk offer advice on growing your own fruit and vegetables, how to make your own compost, things to do in the garden each month as well as factsheets, activity sheets for schools, growing cards and resources for teachers. Healthy Eating & Cookery
Change 4 Life www.nhs.uk ‘Eat Well, Move More and Live Longer’. Healthier recipes and plenty of resources and information on the Eat Well plate, healthy eating and getting children more active.
Childrens Food Trust www.childrensfoodtrust.org.uk aims to get children eating well at home, in childcare, at school and beyond. The Lets Get Cooking programme trains teachers or volunteers to run cook clubs and contains loads of healthy recipes.
Eat Your Veg www.eatyourveg.co.uk written by our very own primary school education officer, Louisa Foti, Eat Your Veg is packed full of healthy easy to make recipes encouraging children to eat more fruit and vegetables.

British Nutrition Foundation www.nutrition.org.uk offer an array of resources to support teachers and pupils in schools learning about nutrition including posters, worksheets, PowerPoint presentations, ICT templates and much more.
