Saturday 24th February – we need you! Please help us with our Tree Planting

PLEASE Come and Join Us!

On Saturday 24th February we are planning a special day of tree planting between 10am and 3pm. We would like as many people as we can gather to be on site for all or part of the day to plant thousands of hedgerow and tree whips. No experience is necessary – we will form work groups who will each be led by trained tree planters.

We are extremely grateful to Network Rail and the Tree Council for funding the supply of our whips – the grant will enable the planting of our hedgerows in the new growing areas to act as wind breaks and wildlife corridors. It will also fund whips to fill in all remaining gaps in our existing border hedges and enable tree clusters around the site.

Please do let us know you are coming so that we have your details should we have to cancel at the last minute (i.e if it’s too stormy or wet) – email info@growinglocal.org.uk…or join our volunteer WhatsApp group (details below).

We’ll supply cake and biscuits and hot drinks, but please bring along a packed lunch….and a favourite spade if you have one!

Our toilet facilities are limited, but we are hoping to have our new temporary composting toilet up and running by then. If not we have use of the toilets over by the Belmont Wanderers car park – which is where you can park if driving (details below). It’s about a 10 minute walk from the gardens.

If cycling or walking – we are situated at the end of the Great Western Way foot/cycle path, go past the football fields and you will see our fields on either side the path as you head towards Grafton – we are likely to be in the main growing field – field 1 on the map below.

If driving: We are able to use the car park of Belmont Wanderers – it is just off Vernons Williams Close in Newton Farm, Hereford (HR2 7BF). Coming from Hereford on the Belmont Road, turn left at the Tesco’s roundabout into Southolme Road. Go over the little roundabout, up the hill, through the chicanes and then turn right onto Vernon Williams Close. Follow the close round to the left and you’ll see the car park at the end. We’ll put up some signposts from the car park to lead you to our fields.
