Duke of Edinburgh Volunteer Sessions – Starting 24th April

Would you like to join our Duke of Edinburgh volunteering group?

As of Wednesday 24th April a small group of DofE students from different schools will meet each Wednesday afternoon between 4.30 and 5.30 at the Growing Local Gardens to help finish construction of our new Children’s Educational Garden.

We will be running this as a rolling programme so students can join us to start their placements on any Wednesdays going forward in order to complete their volunteer or skill hours.

These sessions will of course be FREE to take part in and we can log your hours with your school or organiser. There will be additional opportunities to volunteer more hours on some Saturdays at the garden (including Saturday 4th May, 22nd June, 20th July) or at our Big Eat cook events if you’re interested in cooking.

The garden DofE group will help construct paths and raised beds, make compost bins, a wormery and other garden features as well as helping with the regular sowing, planting and tending of the garden. Together with practical skills young people will have opportunities to develop their teamworking, problem-solving and collaborative skills and gain a sense of accomplishment at creating something for themselves and the community which will be here for many years to come.

To register an interest in a young person attending please contact our Garden Education Officer Kathy Heath who is organising the group, kathy@growinglocal.org.uk

To see the sort of work we do please do explore our new website and head over to Instagram and Facebook for reels and pics of our garden developing over the winter and early spring this year.
