Cook Studio Workshops – From early 2027
Bookable ALL YEAR
These sessions are all **NEW** for early 2027 – they will be bookable once our Community Cook Studio is complete. This is a dedicated cook school building – for use by school and community groups.
All Sessions are suitable for KS1 and KS2 children but could be adapted for KS3 also.
Dips & Sticks (2 hours) reviving our popular previous workshop that we took into schools pre-2020.
Under careful supervision children will practice safe knife skills chopping and slicing a variety of raw fruits and vegetables (younger children will use age/ability appropriate ‘safety’ knives) and prepare a range of healthy dips following simple recipes. KS2 children can have a go at our fun ‘Design-A-Dip’ challenge. At the end of the session children will be encouraged to taste and talk about the dips and fresh produce they have tried, encouragement will be given to try new foods and vegetables. Includes dips recipe cards to take home.
Pick It, Cook It, Eat It (2 hours) Sessions will start with a walk around the education garden to choose and harvest produce to take back to the kitchen. Vegetables will be washed in our external washing station before being taken into the cook school for prep. Children will learn to peel, slice and dice a variety of vegetables and cook together a tasty healthy seasonal dish to enjoy at the end of the session (snack size only, not a full meal). Dishes could be soup, vegetable cakes, frittata, pasta & sauce, salads or roast vegetables. Children will practice safe knife skills, learn the basics of food hygiene, weigh and measure ingredients and master a simple budget friendly recipe. Includes a recipe card to take home.
Let’s Cook Lunch (3 hours) An extended session to cook and eat a full lunch time meal. Sessions will start with a walk around the education garden to harvest produce. Back in the cook school the group will follow a recipe together to make a healthy, tasty and seasonal lunch – lasagne, stir fry, chilli con carne, curry, pasta and sauces or homemade veggie burgers plus appropriate sides and salads. During the session children will practice safe knife skills, the basics of food hygiene, weigh and measure ingredients and master a simple budget friendly recipe. Includes a full lunch to eat at the end of the session and recipe cards to take home.
To extend your trip how about joining us for a Southside Farm Tour or book a different afternoon workshop.
