Big Eat Community Lunches
Our monthly Big Eat community lunches at the Kindle Centre are open to anyone to come along and cook together a tasty, healthy and globe-trotting lunch. So far we’ve cooked together food from Syria, China, Spain, Mexico, India, Great Britain, Italy and Eastern Europe.
Doors on the day open at 10am and we welcome people of all ages, single people, couples and families are all very welcome. No cooking experience is necessary! Our next Saturday Big Eat will be on 9th November, our foodie destination for this date to be confirmed. Look out on Facebook or Twitter for details. In the meantime we are holding a ‘mini Big Eat’ at the Kindle Centre AGM on Friday 4th October where Growing Local staff and volunteers will be cooking and baking a selection of nibbles and light bites from our last year of Big Eats. You are very welcome to join us and help cook, wash up or serve. Email louisa@growinglocal.org.uk if you are interested in coming along.
Holiday Workshops
Growing Local runs a regular programme of workshops in the school holidays, Gardening & Cook Workshops at our garden allotment plot, Family Volunteer Days and Family and Childrens Cook Workshops at the Kindle Centre in Hereford. Here are details of our Summer 2019 programme. Do follow our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social medias to keep updated.
Parent Cook Sessions
We are delighted to have received funding from the Big Lottery Community Fund to deliver a series of Parent/Carer Cook Sessions at various centres in Hereford City in 2019/2020. We are starting the programme in September/October at Widemarsh Childrens Centre on Tuesday mornings and the Kindle Centre on Wednesday afternoons.
Do you want to cook healthier meals for your family? Simple ideas to help save you money and improve you and your family’s health and wellbeing.
Sessions are free, fun and friendly. Learn to cook nutritious veggie-packed family favourites from curries to hotpots, lasagnes to fishcakes in small hands-on groups. Expand your food repertoire and knowledge and take home dinner for your whole family to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
Sessions can be booked individually or the course of all five. Spaces are limited and booking is essential. Times, dates and venues are all listed below. There will be further sessions across the city run in late Autumn, the Winter and Spring.
To book your place email louisa@growinglocal.org.uk or call/text 07902 802982. Vegetarians and any special dietary requirements can happily be catered for.
Volunteer @ Growing Local
We have grant funding from the Youth Social Action Fund to deliver 25 guided volunteer sessions throughout 2018 to students aged 10 to 20 in Herefordshire. The aim of the volunteer sessions is to inspire a new generation of young people to volunteer in society.
We are inviting young people to volunteer at our garden allotment plot and field kitchen at Court Farm in Tillington. Youth volunteers will come along for two to three hour sessions and undertake a variety of tasks including mowing, fencing, basic carpentry and construction, painting and varnishing as well as cookery in our field kitchen, seed sowing, planting, watering and tending our gardens. Tasks will be varied throughout the year dependant on seasonal requirements. In return youths can take home a share of our harvest and learn valuable new life skills, as well of course as being inspired to volunteer on other local projects.
Ideally participants will attend a number of sessions and learn a variety of new skills. If you are a community, youth, scout, guide or school group interested in taking part in the project contact Louisa Foti on 07902 802982 or louisa@growinglocal.org.uk
